🐞 Subscription icons dissapear on Android after a few days. I can 'tap to remove' and re-add the picture but they seem to dissapear after some time.
I couldn't find any other posts about this but please close if this is a dupe.

@Sgt-Nukem commented on GitHub (Jul 22, 2025):
I have the same problem (I'm on GrapheneOS btw). I always thought this always happens when GrapheneOS installs a new version and needs to reboot - but this seems to be unrelated now.
Also some days ago I got a ntfy message from my subscriptions that had the icon, while the icon on the ntfy dashboard itself was already gone.
The subscription settings also don't say "tap to add icon" for me, but "tap to remove (current)" - so it thinks the icon is still there.

It sounds like your issue might be a duplicate of this: https://github.com/binwiederhier/ntfy/issues/634.
I fixed that issue here, but the code hasn't been released yet. We'll include the fix in the next Android app release
@omarahmed786 commented on GitHub (Sep 11, 2025):
Hey thanks for fixing this! Has the Android app been updated since you fixed this? My icons are still disappearing after a bit of usage:
@wunter8 commented on GitHub (Sep 11, 2025):
The fix hasn't been released yet, no. But it should be Soon™️
Binwiederhier has recently been working on getting the next Android release pushed out
@binwiederhier commented on GitHub (Feb 1, 2026):
This is fixed
@hevel86 commented on GitHub (Mar 22, 2026):
Sorry to necro but I still have this issue on the latest version of the app on my Pixel 10 Pro.
I can assign the icons but after a few days they disappear.
@wunter8 commented on GitHub (Mar 23, 2026):
Interesting. Does it always disappear X days after setting it? Or Y days since the topic last received a message? Or any other reproducible pattern?
If you long press to select the topic in the list of all topics, does that make the icon re-appear?
@hevel86 commented on GitHub (Mar 23, 2026):
Edit 3/27/2026: The icons had displayed correctly since I made this post. However, today, I saw that the subs were reconnecting:

I cleared the cache and the icons were blacked out:

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason, but I haven't specifically made an effort track a number of days.
It does not make the icon re-appear.
You can see that TrueNAS has gotten the most notifications, yet the icon remains. Prometheus has gotten the fewest, yet the icon remians, and all the others were grayed out. I just re-added Seerr back yesterday.
@mcanning commented on GitHub (Mar 25, 2026):
FWIW I haven't seen this issue reappear since updating
@omarahmed786 commented on GitHub (Mar 28, 2026):
Unfortunately I am still having this issue on Ntfy Android App Version 1.24.0 on my Google Pixel 9 XL running Android 16 with the latest March Security Update.
I replaced the icons yesterday (and it looked beautiful) and awoke this morning to the barren look again sadly
@binwiederhier commented on GitHub (Mar 28, 2026):
Do they ever come back, or are they gone forever once they are gone?
@binwiederhier commented on GitHub (Mar 28, 2026):
Claude tells me that it may be because the icons are stored in the app cache and that Android can clear that at any time. That should be easy to fix I think
@hevel86 commented on GitHub (Mar 28, 2026):
That would line up with my experience when I force cleared the cache.
@omarahmed786 commented on GitHub (Mar 28, 2026):
This makes sense. Just to give more information, I never manually cleared my cache so like you said Android must have done it automatically overnight.
